“Exploring Color” Enrichment

Through the “Exploring Color” Color Theory enrichment course, students study the relationships of colors through various art projects.  Students take an in-depth look into the Color Wheel studying such things as primary, secondary, tertiary, complimentary, neutral, warm, cool, and analogous colors.  Various media including tempera paint, colored pencils, markers, crayons, oil pastels, tissue paper, and technology are used to experiment with the relationships among different colors on this Color Wheel.   In this course, students create paintings and drawings to answer various questions about how colors create such things as contrast, movement, harmony, depth, and a mood or feeling.  Through a creative project-based approach, students gain an understanding of color mixing as well as various color relationships and purposes.
